Real places and things in Crack Dwellers...
Hillcrest
Hillcrest is the vibrant, eclectic neighborhood where Crystal lives. She enjoys exploring it at night, when the energy is at its highest and most intriguing, and the darkness provides comfortable anonymity. Click on photo to see larger image (opens in a new window).
Strongbow
Strongbow hard cider is one of Crystal’s favorite drinks. She loves the way it compliments a perfect plate of nachos, and she always takes it in her cooler when she escapes to a San Diego beach.

d
At the end of Chapter 5, Crystal observes a disturbing interaction between a man and a woman that leads her into a neighborhood club where a band is playing on stage. She is able to forget herself and her stressful trial for a few moments as she is mesmerized by the sensual, hypnotic music. The band is called d, fronted by the intensely talented Darron Bergdorf. The song Crystal enjoys in this scene is titled "I’m For You." To listen to the entire song, click here (mp3 format—3 mb). To explore the intriguing world of d, visit www.dvolume.com.
Crystal Pier
In Chapter 6, you accompany Crystal on a walk along the boardwalk at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. She likes walking at Crystal Pier because seeing, hearing and smelling the ocean rejuvenates and inspires her. It reminds her of the transformation she experienced in the ocean after meeting Brenda Avery in Chapter 2. Also, she enjoys fantasizing about where Crystal Pier could lead her if it belonged to only her, and she could control its ultimate destination. Roller Coaster
The Belmont Park Roller Coaster in Pacific Beach marks the turnaround point on Crystal’s walks. She has never actually ridden it because she hopes to do so for the first time with her mother, if and when she sees her again. Click on photo to see larger image (opens in a new window).
